Overview

This project was launched to provide premium content for PAYCO members, the No. 3 payment service in Korea. Since the expected release date was around the end of the year and the New Year’s holiday, we planned a fortune-telling service that aligned well with the timing.

From exploring DB provider to service delivery, I took initiative and focused on the reliability of content.

And the advance technology department announced their owned technologies. After I discussed the face reader and palmistry, I ended up winning their support.

Around the same time, our in-house advanced technology lab released research findings on image recognition, speech recognition, and OCR. Recognizing the potential to apply these technologies to facial and palm reading, I requested technical collaboration and they joined.

Since fortune-telling services can be perceived as highly superstitious, we aimed to enhance credibility by providing statistical-based content, such as "Tojeong Bigyeol" (a traditional Korean fortune method) and "Saju". Additionally, we refined fortune results into well-structured sentences and designed a clean, modern UI to reinforce trustworthiness.

The payment experience differed between online and offline channels, which led to user drop-offs during online checkout. This was validated through metrics indicating a high mid-payment abandonment rate.
